Professor of History, The Open University

Rosalind Crone is Professor of History at the Open University. She is a 19th century social historian with a particular interest in criminal justice, gender, and education. She is author of Violent Victorians: Popular Entertainment in Nineteenth-Century London (2012), Guide to the Criminal Prisons of Nineteenth Century England (2018), and Illiterate Inmates: Educating Criminals in Nineteenth Century England (2022). She is project lead for www.prisonhistory.org.
