Sandra Garrido

Sandra Garrido completed a PhD in Music at the University of New South Wales in 2012 on the phenomenon of why people listen to sad music. She now works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for both the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at the University of Melbourne and the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions at the University of Western Australia. She has also lectured in Music Psychology at the University of New South Wales

Sandra’s broad research interest is in music psychology with a particular interest in understanding emotional response to music, the influence of personality on musical experience and the use of music to improve mental health. However, her research often overlaps with musicology, performance studies, and music therapy. Having had a long-standing association with music education she is also very interested in the impact of music learning upon young people. Sandra is a member of the Empirical Musicology Group, the Australian Music and Psychology Society (AMPS) and a member of the National Committee of the Musicological Society of Australia.
