Lecturer in Neonatal Care, University of Salford

Following my son's death - a bereavement by suicide - I became involved in raising awareness on the topic of suicide and became involved with fundraising for PAPYRUS a charity and helpline for the prevention of young suicide. I work hard to raise awareness of the work that the charity undertakes by giving community group presentations about the charity and filming for television.

I have 25 years of NHS Nursing experience in various speciality areas. The last 17 years were working in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. My studies involve the achievement of an MSc in Nursing, currently I work as a Lecturer at the University of Salford. Nothing could have prepared me for the effect that suicide has on a family / individuals. However, by raising people's awareness of suicide statistics, talking through the taboo of suicide and thus aiming to remove the stigma associated with suicide, lives will be saved.
