Scott F. Heron, Ph. D., is Associate Professor in Physics at James Cook University and affiliated with NOAA Coral Reef Watch. His research has focused on coastal and near-shore environmental physics through satellite, coastal and in-water remote sensing; hydrodynamic modelling; and oceanographic and estuarine field studies. Of key interest is the synthesis of physical data with biological and/or chemical information to improve understanding of ecosystem impacts. Scott is co-developer of the Climate Vulnerability Index, a rapid assessment tool for World Heritage and other protected areas.
