Dr. Sean Mullan teaches in the applied ocean mapping graduate program of the School of Ocean Technology at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador's Marine Institute in St. John's.
He is enjoying an interdisciplinary scientific career that integrates his experience in geology, oceanography, geomatics, and education. His PhD dissertation (U. Victoria, 2018) on seabed sediment dynamics and geomorphology in tidal straits, is relevant to the routing of seafloor cables & pipelines, the situation of tidal turbines for renewable energy extraction, and understanding seabed habitats.
Before relocating to Newfoundland, Sean worked on the other side of Canada in British Columbia (BC) with the Geological Survey of Canada's marine group, Ocean Networks Canada's observatory operations section, and in several geomatics roles with the Government of BC. He also taught and redesigned an undergraduate course in geological oceanography for the University of Victoria's School of Earth and Ocean Sciences.
