Head of Museums, University of Pretoria

Dr Sian Tiley-Nel is the well-known Curator of the Mapungubwe Collection and Archive at the University of Pretoria for more than 22 years. She is currently the Head of the UP Museums, under the Office of the Registrar. She is also a historian, writer, academic, conservator, museologist and heritage specialist. Her most recent book titled, Past Imperfect is in fact a monograph of her PhD on the contested early history of the Mapungubwe Archive of the University of Pretoria. Her research challenges the Mapungubwe Collection and its associated archive from a transdisciplinary perspective and how contestation of the past and previously ignored histories continuously challenge the multiple narratives of Mapungubwe. Published by BAR Publishing, Oxford, the book forms part of the BAR International (3080) African Archaeology Series, Volume 96.
