Lecturer in law and Practising Solicitor, University of Salford

I am a Lecturer in Law at the University of Salford and a practising Solicitor. My decision to leave private practice as a Family Law Solicitor in 2014 was motivated by my interest in professional formation and in widening participation to those otherwise unlikely to access the legal profession. Prior to joining Salford, I oversaw the professional development of junior lawyers within my firm and was responsible for the design of bespoke professional courses to legal professionals nationally. My primary teaching areas include Family Law and Practice, Company Law and Practice and Professional Skills. I am responsible for student teams within our University Law Clinic and supervise the provision of advice and support provided by our Clinic to members of the public drawn from our local community.

Within the University Law Clinic, issues regarding the treatment and management of cases where domestic abuse is raised feature significantly and form part of the assessment undertaken by the students within the clinical legal education modules. In collaboration with organisations operating to support domestic abuse survivors within our community, the Clinic aims to provide our students with a holistic and enhanced understanding of domestic abuse that offers an appropriate underpinning for any further post-graduate training in this area.
