Senior Lecturer in Design and Computation, University of Sydney

Dr Somwrita Sarkar's research looks at complex systems and networks in various design, technological and biological domains, and developing models and methods to better understand them. Specifically, she has worked on spectral methods of modularity detection in complex networks and network structure discovery from functional data. An emerging principal area of interest in her work is city science research and urban computing, where she aims to develop novel data mining and computational methods for solving problems in urban design and planning research, especially focused around the social and economic dynamics of housing and transportation in the city.

Somwrita holds a Bachelor in Urban Planning from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, an M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, and a PhD in Design Theory and Methodology from University of Sydney. Her PhD was awarded the Faculty of Architecture, Design, and Planning Exceptional PhD Award and was a finalist for the Rita and John Cornforth University PhD Medal.
