Stefanie Malan-Muller

Postdoctoral fellow in Department of Psychiatry in the field of Psychiatric Genetics, Stellenbosch University

I am trained as a geneticist and my research focusses on Psychiatric Genetics, specifically in anxiety and stress-related disorders. I am interested in the regulation of gene expression, how the environment affects gene expression through epigenetics and how that is associated with disease. My most recent research is focussed on how the gut microbiome (bacteria in the gastro-intestinal tract) is associated with psychiatric conditions, such as post traumatic stress disorder.
