Stephen Roxburgh

Research Group Leader, Forest Systems; Flagship Stream Leader, Sustainable Agriculture Flagship, CSIRO

Dr Roxburgh is currently working on a range of projects to improve carbon accounting methods in Australian ecosystems. This includes developing field-based methods and carbon cycle models at a range of spatial scales, including tall Eucalyptus forests in New South Wales and Victoria, open forests and woodlands in south-central Queensland, grazed rangelands, and environmental plantings across the continent.

Dr Roxburgh is also working on fundamental ecological questions regarding the role of environmental variability and disturbance in promoting and maintaining biological diversity; and on the link between biological diversity and ecosystem function.

Dr Roxburgh leads the ‘Carbon Sinks’ Stream in the Sustainable Agriculture Flagship’s ‘Greenhouse gas abatement and carbon storage in land use systems’ theme, and is leader of the ‘Forest Systems North’ research group within the Forest Systems Program.
