Stephenie is a Doctoral candidate in the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of Sydney, and an Associate of the Sydney Democracy Network. Supervised by Professor John Keane, her research explores alternative theories to conventional understandings of sovereignty, with a focus on the intersection of cyber politics, surveillance, and digital technologies in China and Hong Kong. Stephenie is a Canadian citizen, and holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Calgary, and a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford (UK), where her research focused on the cultural and political implications of censorship and surveillance in the post 9/11 era in America.
