Steven M. Demorest

Professor of Music Education, Northwestern University

Steven M. Demorest teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in choral music methods, philosophy, research methods, and music cognition. His research interests include the cognitive, neurological, and social foundations of singing skills, cultural neuroscience of music, music cognition, and sight-singing pedagogy. His research has been published in journals from the music education, music cognition, and cognitive neuroscience fields. He is the author of Choral Music Methods and Materials (second edition) with Barbara Brinson and Building Choral Excellence. He is the incoming editor of the International Journal of Research on Choral Singing.
