Stuart is a criminologist who works primarily in the field of substance use. His main interest lies within the interconnections between sociocultural constructions of ‘drugs’, prohibitionist drug policies and social harm. Recent publications have focused on issues such as: the use of drug checking kits among ecstasy users; media representations of the intoxicated; drugs, stigma and consumerism; and extending conceptualisations of drugs dealers and drug markets.
