Associate Professor Gannon works in the School of Education at Western Sydney University. She was Equity strand leader in the Centre for Educational Research from 2012-2017. Her research interests include gender equity and diversity; aspiration trajectories of young people; creative writing pedagogies; media and cultural studies in educational research and educational policy. She is CI on the current ARCD Grant “Gender Matters: Changing Gender Equity Policies and Practices in Australian Secondary Schooling.” She is currently co-editor of the international journal "Gender and Education" and regional editor for the "International Journal of Qualitative Studies in Education". She was previously editor of "English in Australia" and was on the executive of the Australian Association of Teachers of English. Prior to taking up work in the tertiary sector, she taught in secondary schools in several states, and worked as an English Curriculum Adviser and Equity Programs Officer with Education Queensland. She is also on the Board of Directors of "Westwords: Western Sydney's Young People’s Literature Development Organisation".
