Srinivas has a PhD from University of Hyderabad. He taught in Secunderabad and Itanagar before joining Centre for the Study of Culture and Society (CSCS), Bangalore in 1998. Over the next 16 years, while his primary affiliation was with CSCS, he held visiting appointments in National University of Singapore, Hokkaido University, Georgetown University, Washington DC, Indian Institute of Science and University of Hyderabad. His research explores the complex linkages between popular culture and mass politics. He is the author of two books on cinema and politics in India: Megastar (Oxford University Press, 2009) and Politics as Performance (Permanent Black, 2013). He currently teaches Humanities at Azim Premji University, Bangalore.
