Specialising in International Business, Swati Nagar has over 17 years of academic experience. Currently employed at the Department of International Business, Strategy and Entrepreneurship, AUT, she teaches a range of International Business papers on Undergraduate, Postgraduate and MBA programmes. Her teaching interests include International Business Environment, International Business Strategy and Management and Future trends in International Business. Her doctoral thesis entitled – Internationalisation of New Zealand Civil Construction Firms: Opportunities & Challenges in Asia – investigated the barriers New Zealand civil construction firms are most likely to encounter when considering infrastructure development projects in emerging Asia.

Her current research interests lie in three areas - examining the nature and extent of labour exploitation (modern slavery) present in global value chains, the impact of political and institutional uncertainty on international business and the economic significance of international tertiary educatiion. She is a member of the Academy of International Business, Australia and New Zealand International Business Academy (ANZIBA), the American Chamber of Commerce and the New Zealand India Trade Alliance.
