Associate Professor, History, University of Guelph

I am a historian in the Department of History at the University of Guelph. My work explores the history of medicine and science, specifically the history of psychiatry and mental health and the history of disease. My current project, funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, explores the history of psychiatry in medical education in early twentieth-century America and the social and cultural contours of professionalization. In 2020, along with Catherine Carstairs, I received a University of Guelph Research Catalyst Fund grant to study the historical health inequities revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
