Senior Lecturer in Social Policy, Bangor University

I am a Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at Bangor University. In 2020 I released my first book ‘Higher Education and Working-Class Academics: Precarity and Diversity in Academia’ for the Palgrave Pivot series. I'm interested in diversity in academia and trajectories into and beyond HE, as well as the broad area of inequalities. My PhD, which was funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, was completed in 2014. The thesis focused on graduate inequalities in relation to class, gender and place.

I have wide research interests but I can only hope that in their total they are my attempt to encapsulate Becker's (1967) call to "to grant those labelled as deviant a voice hitherto silenced by the hubris of policy-makers" (p.247).
