Thomas Giachetti

Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences, University of Oregon

I am an assistant professor in volcanology in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oregon.

I'm currently studying magma degassing during volcanic eruptions and how this degassing affects the dynamics of volcanic eruptions.

My research involves the study of water diffusion in volcanic glass, the collection and textural and chemical analyses of volcanic samples, and the numerical modeling of degassing processes and magma ascent in the conduit during explosive eruptions.

In the previous years, I also studied the formation and propagation of tsunamis triggered by volcanic debris avalanches, using an approach by numerical modeling.

My research necessites the use of different approaches, methods and tools.
