Tizta Tilahun Degfie

Post-Doctoral Research Scientist, African Population and Health Research Center

Tizta holds a PhD in Social-Health Sciences; Medical-Social Sciences from Ghent University, Belgium, an MSc in Population Studies specialized in Reproductive Health from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia and a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography from Bahir Dar University.

Before joining APHRC, Tizta worked in Jimma and Addis Ababa Universities as an Assistant Professor and researcher from 2006-2016. Her research interests include family planning and fertility, and causes of health inequalities in the life course focusing on women’s and child’s health.

She is driven by the unique nature of conducting research and its contribution to society.

Tizta is a member of several professional associations such as Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA), Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE), Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern Africa (OSSREA), Ghent Africa Platform (GAP), and Population Association of America (PAA).
