Departmental Lecturer in Archaeology, University of Oxford

Dr Toby Martin is a lecturer at the University of Oxford's Department for Continuing Education, where he specializes in early medieval archaeology and digital education. His specialist area of research encompasses the burial archaeology of early medieval Europe during the fifth to seventh centuries, and he is an international expert in the jewellery of this period.

He obtained his BA in Archaeology and Anthropology as well as his MSt in European Archaeology from the University of Oxford, and studied for his PhD at the University of Sheffield. Since 2013 Toby has held various posts with the University of Oxford, working as a Research Fellow and lecturer with the School of Archaeology before moving to the Department for Continuing Education in 2018. During his career Toby has also worked in developer-funded archaeology both in the field and in post-excavation publication.
