Todd Lehmann

I am a PhD graduand in Political Science at the University of Michigan. My research primarily aims to explain the macro-level implications of disaggregated, micro-level behavior in the substantive areas of international conflict and security. Specifically, my research focuses on the causes, dynamics, and consequences of international conflict, alliances and security cooperation, civil conflict, battlefield effectiveness, civil-military relations, and military organizations. I am also interested in the study of complex systems, especially with regard to adaptive interaction, diffusion, and emergent behavior. Methodologically, much of my work uses statistical analysis, formal modeling, agent-based modeling, and social network analysis.

I received my BS in Operations Research from the US Air Force Academy in 2006, and my MA in International Relations from Creighton University in 2013. I also earned a Graduate Certificate in Complex Systems from the University of Michigan’s Center for the Study of Complex Systems in 2018. From 2006 to 2014, I was an active duty officer in the US Air Force. My primary duty was as an electronic warfare officer and tactical coordinator on the RC-135 V/W Rivet Joint, a strategic and tactical reconnaissance aircraft.
