Public Health Medicine Specialist, National Institute for Communicable Diseases

Waasila Jassat is a Medical Doctor with a specialist qualification in Public Health Medicine. She has experience in clinical practice, research and management in the South African public health sector for the past 20 years. She has a strong interest in health systems, particularly the effective implementation of health programmes.

Waasila has been employed by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) since March 2020, where she has coordinated the DATCOV hospital surveillance for COVID19. Waasila is currently registered towards a PhD at the School of Public Health, University of Western Cape.
