Winston C. Thompson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education and Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Philosophy at the University of New Hampshire. He received his PhD in Philosophy of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Thompson’s scholarship focuses upon normative ethical and social/political questions of justice, education, and the public good, with recent efforts analyzing dilemmas of educational policy. He explores the role of intentional and institutional educational experiences in the creation and cultivation of self-respect and has articulated the centrality of the recognition of human dignity in the design of educational structures. Currently, Thompson is working on enlarging the mainstream view of the relationship between education and politics in order to ask what is owed to persons and polities as a matter of educational rather than political justice.
