Underground plant networks warn of enemy attacks

Plants receive information through fungal networks that enables them to fight infestation, discovered researchers at the University of Aberdeen.

Those connected to an infested plant through mycelia fungus pre-emptively produced chemicals to repel predatory aphids, unlike those without the same connections.

Scientists believe crop management techniques that exploit this natural communication could help effectively combat insect pests.
